DANCE CULTURE | ||
In our country, men and women to dancing together outside folk dancing activities was a gift provided by the foundation of the Republic. In Istanbul culture, this opportunity was celebrated at the chicest balls accompanied by Tango music. Through the years, Tango lost its momentum and by the ‘90s, it was kept alive by small, local groups of enthusiasts. In 1995, the Armada set the goal of bringing all of Istanbul’s Tango groups together to have them dance at the city’s best-known locations. In addition, we opened our arms to national and international Tango workshops and dance competitions. As a result, our hotel has become an organization directly associated with Tango. "Tango Nights" occurred every Sunday evening. In terms of dance, this event was the beginning of an important new age in Istanbul. Well-known dance instructors Ümit İris and Seval Uğur opened the Tango night with the first dance. Followed by contributions of other tango lovers, the event turned into a celebration of Tango each week and went on for years. Later on, "Milonga Nights" occupied Monday evenings and TangoTürk began to gather at the Armada, where they still dance today. |
