CASINO CULTURE - NEOGAZINO | ||
The "casino" has always been a part of Istanbul’s urban culture at varying degrees. It became a social institution after the formation of the Republic where family dinner outings were transformed into vibrant nightlife with live music. The casino is an establishment with its own culture and set of traditions. A typical night begins with the "overture", a line-up of singers, dancers, jugglers and other entertainers, followed by a featured well-known soloist singing classical Turkish pieces. Today, the casinos are disappearing one by one from their old neighborhoods like Tepebaşı, Taksim and Harbiye or changing their repertoires to go along with the everchanging architectural and social fabric of the city. From time to time, the Armada opens its doors to well known event producer Hakan Erdoğan’s "Neo Casino" show, a modern interpretation of casino-style entertainment. |
